When Tamara Burross sent me her pictures and write-up I was soooo excited to share them! She and I are part of a fine art project this year and I continue to be inspired by her crazy talent. Not only does she capture beauty through her camera lens, but she creates beauty in her everyday. Come and see for yourself.
When it comes to displaying portraits, I don’t have any rules. I like to make a statement and just do what feels right to me. I love this portrait of my daughter for it’s timeless, fairytale mood and wanted to display it in dramatic fashion. I achieved just that placing it above this vintage buffet and creating a “glow” with an up-light behind one of the table frames. At night the effect is quite beautiful. I love seeing her sleeping face illuminated.
I like to combine unexpected elements with portraits. Salvaged doors, frames and architectural pieces add interest and depth to an otherwise boring wall in my narrow sitting room.
Don’t leave your fabulous old family photos stored in a box any longer! Mix and match them with your modern portraits to create an eclectic wall collage. Here I have combined vintage-styled shots of my daughter, with photos of my grandmother, aunts and my mother as a child. I treasure these images and the homey feel they give my bedroom.
Get inspired! This burlap pin board over my cutting/craft table is covered in cherished snapshots, vintage photos, swatches and magazine clippings I have collected.
Don’t underestimate those albums and books! They are a great way to display all the images you can’t fit on the walls. My kids love paging through ours and reliving those fun summer memories.
Thank you, Tamara!
