My greatest hope with this project was always to encourage people to print and use their photographs in their homes. About a week ago my friend Kristina Buskirk emailed to tell me that she had been reading the daily posts and was motivated to finally get her wall displays up on her walls. She then went out and did it! And sent me pictures. So I invited her to guest post today as an example of what you can do when you set your mind to it. And it only took her about a week (and numerous trips looking for the right frames). Come take a peek! She has two of the cutest kids ever and writes a BLOG full of amazing learning projects for toddlers that I wish I had access to when I was a mom with littles.
If you can believe it, up until Wendy started this Art Display Project series a week or so ago this was seriously the only set of pictures hanging on our wall.
We have lived in our home for almost 2.5 years and with new babies and a busy life, I hadn’t taken a moment to put anything up yet. I take a lot of photos of my kids and share them on Facebook and on our family blog, but I realized the other day that my kids never see any of them. So, I got started putting photos up finally. Every day of this series has motivated me to do more and more. My husband calls me possessed (in a nice way) and wishes that Wendy would start posting about remodeling garages so I’d do that too.
My daughter is a bit of a narcissist, so I started in her room and put this set of photos up from her 9 month shoot with
Meghan MacAskill. She wakes up from her nap every day pointing at them excitedly. Exactly the reason I started this.
I also wanted to find a way to display photos of those we love in a simple way. Picking out frames and designing ideas for walls is really hard for me. We have an enormous wall as you come down the stairs that is empty. We decided to make it a temporary wall of love for February. I am slowly adding photos of friends, grandparents, and other family members and then plan to have us write love notes to one another during our
Kindness Challenge that starts next week.
My son didn’t want to be left out, so we hung a set of three square frames in his room. I cross-stitched the mattes when my son was a newborn and the frames have been in a corner since we moved in. It is so fun to see them again in his baseball themed big kid room.
My favorite accomplishment (and the one that was the most laborious), was this photo wall on another giant blank wall in our living room. It includes two 16x20s, two 11x14s, and 4 8x10s. We included photos from shoots with
Alie Leeflang and
Meghan as well as several that I took.
The last project stemmed from discovering lots of cute and funny photos of my son and daughter while we did crafts and activities over the year. I tried to think of an easy way that I could display them on a regular basis so that the kids could see them. I decided to just get small 4×6 prints made to go along with different art projects that we did and hang them together. My favorite is the photo of my 1 yr old daughter’s first experience finger painting, right next to the masterpiece that she created.
I have been so inspired by this Art Display project. I’m excited to see what is coming next! Those of you that already posted are amazing.
Thank you, Kristina!

Thanks for letting me share Wendy! It was so motivating to know I had to send you pictures. I haven’t felt that driven since I was nesting and 8 months pregnant with Caitlin. Can’t wait to see the post tomorrow.
Really great ideas. I especially love that you have a photo of your daughter along with the picture she painted – wonderful!
adore!! i did a wall heart frame too, my post will be up later on this month. i think you should sell the cross-stitching, i would totally buy it. i’m being serious. love!!
what great ideas – yay you!. I’m rather partial to the 6×4’s attached to the masterpieces created. Brilliant.
HOW awesome! I love that you didn’t delay – you saw something you wanted and needed to do, you went right out and DID It. So often we get stuck in inspire mode and never move to GENERATE. I LOVE the heart wall. I love all of them, actually. So glad you joined all of us in this challenge!
Love all your photo displays! I have to admit we have been lax about displaying our photos, and this such an inspiration! Not related to photos, but I like the way you have stored your daughter’s hair clips.
This is a great inspiration to get my photos off the computer, especially when you mentioned that your kids didn’t get to see them on the computer. It’s so true! I bet my kids would enjoy looking at the pictures as much as I do. I really need to start printing photos now!
Loving all of these! That heart is adorable 🙂 Great ideas!!
Kristina, this is so, so wonderful! I especially love that you finally made use of those cross-stitched mattes 🙂 The heart collage is my next favorite! Yay for being inspired to get all of this done!
Fabulous ideas – would love some baseball-seamed cross-stitch for my baseball freak’s game photos!
