Art Display Project | Stacey Woods

I am thrilled beyond thrilled to welcome Stacey Woods of Stacey Woods Photography to my blog today.  If you aren’t familiar with her work, please visit the links at the end of this post and swoon over the beautiful way she captures real life moments in words and images. When she sent me her images for this post, I fell in love with her beautiful, peaceful, and calm home.  It completely reflects the way she shoots.  Simple yet refined. Take a look.

 

I have simple tastes, yet I am quite fickle.  And I can prove it by the way I display my photos at home…. not too many of my wall galleries are terribly permanent.  I guess I’m a little apprehensive to commit to a big display on the walls, and the dreaded nailholes that come with.  You see, I know that I crave change in my home, and I’m sure that just about the time that I would get my display on the wall, I would surely tire of it and want to move it all around.  So I’ve found my happy medium:  I really love using ledges and shelves to display my photographs, and the best part is that I can swap out the images — and their arrangement — whenever the whim strikes.  Very little commitment, and very few nail holes in the walls!

This set of images is in Charlotte’s little side of our master bedroom.  She’s still just a few months old, so she’s in a bedside cradle for now.  And even though the room isn’t totally hers, I still want her tiny space to be special for her.  I will soon add a few of her newborn photos to this mix, poor thing is already four months old and I still don’t have her walls “finished” yet!  Here is an assortment of smallish prints (5×7, 8×10, 20×20) that pack more punch when framed under a wide mat.  So far I have here a few of my maternity photos (courtesyDeb Schwedhelm), a favorite bedtime quote that I framed, her C monogram, and a numerical plate that I picked up a few years back… little did I know how significant that number three would be to us now!  (Pardon the evergreen garland… I haven’t taken my Christmas decorations down yet!)

Another ledge-type gallery is in our living room above our bookcase.  These two images are standouts (16×20 and 24×36) and are very lightweight, despite their size.  I’ve moved these two pieces all over our house!  (Again, please forgive the garlands, lol!)

I also tuck a few smaller prints within the bookcase… this framed photo of Parker and Lila was taken in a field in Kentucky (where I grew up), and Lila is wearing a dress that I wore when I was her age.  I smile every time I see this and I can’t imagine not having this image someplace visible in our home.

This one was Christmas 2008… just a styrene-mounted 8×10 print propped on an easel.

When I do hang photos on the wall, I tend to keep it very simple and clean.  Straight lines, lots of symmetry.  I think it brings a sense of peace and calm to this crazy chaotic house.  😉  Two 5×5 framed photos of my children at the beach (and a tiny starfish) are hung beside our door.  And the right two framed 8x10s are actually of Lila a long time ago, and I smile when I see how much Charlotte resembles her older sister at this very age.  (Top photo courtesy Amy Smith.)

And another symmetrical grouping, this time in a smaller room.  These are simply framed 5x7s.

Now, I’m off to finally print Charlotte’s baby pictures and get them on her walls.  I’m so excited for this project and thankful that Wendy is hosting such a wonderful series on her blog.  I’m anxious to get more ideas from her other guests, too!
