Fifty-two Fridays | Danville California Photographer

Fall is kicking my behind this year.  First, I’m crazy busy with kids and work and life, all of which thrill me to pieces.  And secondly,  time seems to be flying by this year!  I have a feeling I say that every year but every year I’m perpetually surprised by how quickly the holidays sneak up on me.  I hope I’m not the only one.

This 52 Fridays project has been SO challenging and motivating and inspiring as my fellow photographer friends continue to spur me on each week.  Yet many weeks it’s been frustrating as I’ve had ideas in my head all week and yet I wait until the last minute to create them.  As was the case this week and which will surely be the case up until the end.  More than once I’ve considered sitting out a week, but I’ve promised myself that no matter what, I’m sticking it out to the bitter end.

This week’s theme:

face

Inspired by an image I saw on Flickr, I wanted to create a hazy foreground in-camera, rather than in Photoshop.  To do this I shot wide open at 1.4.  I positioned her in front of our garage door at dusk (I told you I procrastinate!).  I knew I needed something in the foreground to create the haze so I tried several things (an old floor lamp, an oversized envelope, a rake handle) which didn’t give me what I was after.  So I ended up holding my arm in front of the camera and using it to shield part of the image.  My sweater was a light color and made of wool/cashmere and since I held it close to the lens and far from the focal point, I was able to get a nice soft haze.

Join me as I travel the circle to see the many takes on this week’s theme starting with  Maureen Wilson | Mccomb Mississippi Photographer.

Happy Weekending!!!
