Fifty-two on Friday | Week 10: Alone

I’m collaborating with nineteen  amazing photographers this year on a project we’ve named, Fifty-two on Friday.  Each week we post an image based on a preselected theme word.  This week’s theme is ALONE.  If you’re getting caught up, you can click on FAMILY, FASHION, and INNOCENCE to see more.  Don’t forget to click on the link under my image to visit the next photographer in the circle.

As I was thinking of the theme this week, I had visions of grainy black and white images of homeless old men in corners dragging on cigarettes.  While I hope to one day take pictures like that, I did not have a chance, or the courage, to go into the heart of the city to shoot strangers this week.  Instead, I’m posting one from our trip to Hawaii a few months ago.  This is one that I didn’t initially pick out of the hundreds of images from our trip, but as I was leafing through them again yesterday, I thought it fit well with the theme this week.

Being in a tropical paradise is heaven, but the feeling of waking so early in the morning to be the very first person to make footprints in  the newly smoothed sand, alone, is even better!  Here’s to hoping spring makes its way to you soon with sunshine and warm weather.  Happy Friday!

Please make your way over to my friend Kelsey Anderson, Las Vegas Photographer for her take on this week’s theme!

  2. Wendy, I love this. You’re right, being the first of the day to lay some prints….the best. What an awesome memory, captured.

  3. Love it Wendy! Hoenstly, I think you really rose to the challenge to interpret alone in a different way, that means peaceful instead of sad. Love this cheerful image!
