This is one of my very favorite photos of my husband’s grandmother. I love it because it’s so timeless. She looks so peaceful and content. I love the black and white with color added here and there. Here is what my mother-in-law Charlotte had to say about it:
She was 19 at the time, and married just 1 year, and I think this was one of the first outings with her husband. It was a time of war and all kinds of problems, but I think she was very happy in spite of all of that. She even might have been pregnant at the time, since Peter was born the following May. Semmering is and has always been a favorite place to go for Viennese people, since it could be reached by train in a couple of hours. The picture was originally in black and white, but colorized somehow afterwards.
That is such a wonderful picture! You should frame it and hang it in your house! Hope everyone is doing well!

This picture is amazing. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing it!
PS. I love that you mentioned renewing library items online in your comment–without that feature I’d be bankrupt due to late fees! 🙂
That picture is precious! Thanks for sharing.
Do you ever wonder what a picture of us will look like 70 years from now? Will we look that ‘vintage?’
It definitely has an “Austrian” look.
I love old photos. It reminds me that people were very thoughtful when taking a picture. I have tons of photos of my children, but not very many of me. We are so hurried by life that we just don’t think to include ourselves (that is my husband and I).
COOL!
