First off, I want to give a big huge thanks to all of my guest bloggers in January! I know how time consuming it is to pull a post together for someone else, let alone (in some cases) pull wall displays together in addition. So, thank you!
Second, I want to thank all of my readers who came by to have a peek, to get inspired, and who left love for each blogger. I know, from comments on the blog as well as emails to me, that this project has been a jumping off point for many people to get their photos printed out this year. That makes my heart sing.
Third, I was also inspired by all the wonderful ideas from the project. I shared a few of them on Tatertots and Jello yesterday, where I will be a monthly contributor this year! TT&J is a mecca of fabulous DIY, craft, home, and life ideas. If you haven’t ever been, stop over and roam around. I shared a sneak peek at one of my wall projects I’ve been working on. And I wanted to share the rest of them today. As is the case with many of you, my walls are still a work in progress. I have a few more ideas I didn’t get to this past month but have every intention of finishing soon.
I am definitely creating a memory book for 2011… eventually… but for now, I found this free template from Paislee Press and created a 12×12 print full of images from the year. I framed it in a 20×20 with a simple white matte from Aaron Brothers.
In the same room I framed several pictures of my kids and our family in black frames, some with mats, some without and included a star and a couple of signs.
In the same room above the fireplace I printed a 20×20 canvas through Black River Imaging of one of our Project12 photos from last year. I love it because it’s totally us, with no pretenses. (BTW, does anyone know what kind of paint to use to paint out the brass on my fireplaces???)
I loved the clipboard idea so I bought several, painted them with chalkboard paint, and hung them in the kitchen. I love the fact that you can change out the photos so often and easily.
Up the staircase I decided to do a wall gallery of black frames with white mats. I’m planning on adding to it little by little and including some of the kids’ artwork as well.
In the living room I have two ledges from my last house that I’ve propped a few larger mounted prints on. I love that I can change those out often as well. (Printed through MPixPro, except for the flag picture which is a metal printed through BRI)
And finally, in the same room I have cathedral ceilings and I knew whatever I hung had to be big! And indeed that is just what I did. I had four 30×40 canvases printed (Black River Imaging) of my kids and hung them right above my entry table. It’s the first thing people see when they walk in our home. I love them! I’ve posted them on the blog before and have had several people comment that they are bigger in person than they look in pictures.
I wish I could incorporate all of the ideas that were shared into my home, but I don’t have that many walls! I’m still hoping to create some sort of ancestor wall like Sara Tegman shared, a beautiful photo box like Gretchen Davis has, a beautiful bulletin board for snaps like Rachel Chaney’s, and an inspiration board like so many of you all have. And that should cover all my remaining walls at the moment.
This has been such a fun project! I’m considering doing something similar in the future so get those walls ready!
AND FINALLY…
The winner of the 16×24 standout is…
Staci Bailey!!!
Congratulations and everyone who entered the giveaway will be emailed a promo code for your next print order from MPix!
Happy Wednesday!
Love looking into your house, Wendy! Thanks for having me as part of this project. I feel so inspired to try new ways of displaying my photos! And congrats Staci!
Thank you for having me in your project, Wendy. My house finally feels like a home because of you.
I love your 2011 year – Great idea to do a yearly one and frame it. I did that month by month and just stuck them in an album for 2010. I love looking back on them – but your idea is so much cooler.
Do you paint to cover that brass surround around your fireplace on the wall that I sanded? lol. My go to primer is the zinsser coverstain primer – that stuff covers anything http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=562- with NO sanding needed. Other than that I would say an enamel protective – metal paint would be your best bet.
Every day I’ve looked forward to seeing the art tours of the featured photographers. SO many fun and fab ideas. Thanks for putting it all together. – aroha
Wendy!! I love your ideas and beautiful home! That collage is awesome, I am definitely going to have to do that one, and I the clipboards are so clever. Thank you for inviting me to participate in such a great project. Everyone was very inspiring.
I love all the pictures on your walls. Thank you for sharing them… I especially like the painted clipboards. That might have to be a future project for me.
I have used lots of black frames in my photo collages too – you can see my gallery wall here: http://www.kristenbalvin.blogspot.com/2012/01/my-gallery-wall.html
Have a great day!
Beautiful displays in your home. I gotta get busy getting more artwork up on my walls. Thank you again for inspiring us every day for a month straight. Truly a privilege and an honor. We just painted one of our brass fireplaces. Scott used a textured black spray paint that is used for high heat resistant things like a bbq pit. It worked great!
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much!!!! I am beyond excited!!! Woot! Woot!
Love your displays. I have the family rules in my home too. Thanks for sharing
such a beautiful month .. what a treasure it was each day to see the gorgeous walls of our friends! your home and your art is wonderful!!! love it!
I have LOVEd this series, and am sad that the month is over. I have gleaned many ideas though. I was excited to see YOUR post tonight. You have so many beautiful displays all around your house. I too have MANY photos around my house. They are just too fun to not enjoy and each of my kids get so excited when “they” are put up on the wall.
ANYWAY, thanks again for all of your inspiration!
Love the 2011 collage, Wendy.
Thank you so much for this project. I’m going to start a pin board of display ideas gleaned from all the photographers who shared their displays.
And I’m excited that Staci won the drawing. I know it will be put to great use.
Thank you for all of your hard work, Wendy.
Love your walls, they look great! Your image with the American flag is my fave from you! If you dont mind me asking, where did you get your family rules? I have been looking for one but have only found 11×14 art prints. Thanks for your help!
How did I miss this? LOVE your home and the way you display your art! I’m in love with the 12 x 12 filled with memories from a whole year, such a great idea! Thanks for doing this fabulous project, Wendy! I loved being a part of it! xo
Beautiful!! Love all the pictures of your family. Your 2011 collage is such a great way to remember the year. I am pinning several of these ideas right now!
I just love all of the creative ways you incorporated your photographs in your home. This has me very inspired to change my boring walls.
I love your blog, it really showcases your dedication to the art of Photography. This post gives me so much idea to display pictures on my own wall. I’ll definitely create that clipboard display for my kitchen. 🙂 Thank you.
I’m so impressed with this series of blog posts and everyone’s walls–your project has been amazing! If you see a lot of visits from “Hamilton, Ontario”, it’s me! I’m combing the post for ideas so I can finally order things for my walls! Loved this series when I first saw it on Bloom back in January! Thanks again!
