Whew!

June has been a whirlwind month and I can hardly believe it went by so fast!

This blog of mine took a backseat to getting my kids through the end of the school year, a belated birthday party for one of my kids, and our family trip back to where we both spent our high school years, New England.  Pictures from that trip soon to come.

During all of that chaos, I was over-the-moon thrilled to find among my pile of mail, the June issue of Lemonade and Lenses, marking the very first time my work has been published/printed in a magazine.  Their June issue is dedicated to high school senior photography and it’s chock full of beautiful examples and styles of this favorite genre of mine.  I was so honored when Lexi contacted me to publish this image in their upcoming issue.  Someone passed along my name as someone they might be interested in featuring.  Thank you to whoever it was that connected those dots.

This journey of photography is a long one and one that I hope never ends but many times, along the way, I’ve second guessed myself, wondering why I jumped into this journey in the first place and wondering if I will ever break out of this saturated market of photographers to make a name for myself with a style all my own.  I’ve wondered if I’m just another mom with a camera who thinks she’s better than she really is who is trying to fill a need that really doesn’t need to be filled or that can be filled just the same by the neighbor next door with the newest camera and equipment.  For so long I’ve been working on finding my own style that can be picked out of a crowd, one that others would be able to recognize as undoubtedly mine.  A unique style like my friends Val Spring and Deb Schwedhelm have and others who I don’t know personally but admire all the same have like Brooke Shaden and Stephanie Rausser.  I am FAR from that point and I’ll keep on keepin on in my journey to that place but this feature is a small glimmer of hope and a benchmark in my journey.  And it makes my heart happy.
