Random, Randomer, Randomest

Still doing laundry.

Is it ever really done?  Vacuuming and mopping.  Check.  I should be preparing for my Friday art lesson right now but just can’t seem to commit to sitting down to organize my sorry self.

Instead I’m planted here with random thoughts running through my brain.  You know what I mean?  You have a list of things to do, none of which you want to do, and you just can’t seem to knock any of them off your list.

So I thought maybe if I jotted these thoughts down, passed them around and shared them with you, I could get them out of my head and get on with my to-do list.  It’s worth a shot.  Welcome to the randomness that is my brain today:

I’m convinced I live in a wind tunnel.  How did this fact escape the decision process when we considered moving here?  The wind has been whistling through the windows all day. I was pleasantly surprised when I held my rugs out the door today to shake them and realized that no shaking was required.  The gusts of wind shot the dirt and crumbs straight to Wyoming.  I despise the wind.  I’ll take rain, snow, and thunderstorms combined over wind any day. I’m ready for some sun.

door-stop

Why is it that every time I vacuum the house I find at least 3 door stops lying on the floor next to where they should be attached to the wall?  Do they unscrew themselves?

clock

Should I worry if my 4 year-old is still wearing his pajamas at 2 o’clock in the afternoon with no intention of ever getting dressed? And why do his PJ bottoms never match his PJ tops?

I’m impressed that my 8 year-old can do mental math better than I can.  That he understands  how remainders,  fractions,  and percentages relate to each other without having been taught any of that yet in second grade.

book

I love a good book that sucks you in to the story.  Right now I’m reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society.  While I’ll probably only give it 4 stars on Goodreads, I’m really enjoying it and hoping Juliet and Dawsey get together in the end.

food-book

I love the library.  Last night I requested about 5 books to be held at my little branch.  Most of them involve food.  The Omnivore’s Dilemma and In Defense of Food are on the list.  Have you read any of these? I’d love to be able to eat 80% raw but I think my love of bread (and all baked goods for that matter) might interfere.

wait

I miss my ipod.  It met an untimely fate in the washing machine. I became a little addicted  to podcasts.  I love NPR’s “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” and “This American Life”.  Does that make me old and crotchety?

adam-lambert

If it’s any consolation, I’m seriously digging on Adam Lambert this season!  I am truly mesmerized… if only by his vocal abilities and wardrobe eccentricies.

I’ve been inspired lately by Paul Cardall.  He’s an LDS recording artist who has mad piano skills.  He was born with a heart defect similar to my 10 year-old.   He’s now 36 and waiting for a heart transplant.  There was a benefit concert for him a couple of weeks ago in Salt Lake City.  I follow his blog and pray that he gets his new heart soon.  He inspires me with his positive attitude and his faith while at the same time worries me for my own son’s future.

And, I hope someone comes along quick and finishes up these Easter jelly beans and M&Ms before I do.  If Jillian catches me snacking on any more of them I WILL pay, I’m sure.

Random, no?

Happy Wednesday!

  1. As a random girl, I loved this because this is exactly how my mind works. And as a single girl, I’m here to tell you that laundry, cleaning, etc for just one person never ends too. However, my door stops stay intact so I would question one or all of your kids on that one! 😉

  2. Oh no, don’t let Jillian know what you’ve been up to! I have been hiding from her. I think I might have to check in with her tomorrow.

I am ready for the sun too! It snowed all day today. Ella loves to hang out in her nightgown all day. I wish I could do it too. It would be so comfy!

  3. I love your random thoughts! I’m a librarian and I still get a regular kick out of putting books on hold. Have you read “What to eat” by Marion Nestle? It was a huge eye opener for me, and I strongly recommend it.

I’ve been meaning to read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society, and will, once I finish Voyager (part of Gabaldon’s Outlander series, and terribly addicting).

PS: found you on MM blogs, and glad I did! 😉

  4. … I hate wind too.. it makes any weather worse. I always find those door stoppers on the floor too!! I thought it was my kids..should I worry if I”m the one still wearing pjamas?? Todd is a math freak too. It’s uncanny. I’m sooo out of book mode…(good reads reminds me monthly that I still haven’t finished my last book.) And… yes.. I think we are ‘maturing’ since I will only listen to talk radio in the car these days. Sorry abou your ipod. although I think adam will win… I really like Kris. maybe because I would really listen to his music. (if i wasn’t listening to NPR that is.) So sad to hear about Paul Cardall.. he’s really talented.. and finally even Jillian’s picture is scary.. and makes me feel guilty.

  5. I was raised an Idaho girl and the wind never seems to stop blowing! Sorry… I wish weren’t so. I also am a very random person LOVED your post. that is exactly the way my mind works.
I also raised math freaks and it is sure paying off…their random mom sure wasn’t though. I think kids are just amazing.
I was sad to hear about your son’s heart condition and pray he will be alright. Our oldest had a heart defect when he was born and he miraculously grew out of it. we were so lucky!
We have had to super glue the rubber tips of the door stoppers on because our little ones love to pull them off and suck on them when they are in the crawling mode. They don’t come out unless a little one uncscrews them though.
iIneed to hook up with Jillian! And I agree about Adam. He can sing!

  6. I always like random posts, I think we as women are just that way most of the time. One thought leads to another, and so on. What was I talking about? haha That Jillian, oh how I loathe her…

  7. This American Life – I love listening to that too, although every once in awhile I have to change the station because of content.

And the wind – the wind! I have been trying to think of something to be grateful for instead of complaining. I have come up with, “I’m glad I’m not baking in hot desert sun.” That’s all I can think of! Ha ha

    Love your blog, as always!

Oh, and Will in his pajamas. Tell him to come on over at 2 pm – we’ll be a team.

  8. Hi, So sorry about your ipod. That must have happened after your trip back home. I loved your dust going to Wyoming! Who cares if Will is in his pj’s–it’s for sure, he doesn’t. My doorstops are still in place so it must not be your kids- Have you talked to Ralf about them?:) Spring and sun ARE coming!!!

  9. i am tired after reading that. although i did do a double take when you said “i miss my ipod” because i thought it said “I missed my period.” and i was like, whoa, this girl doesn’t care who knows what’s up.

maybe i’ll just go take that nap.

  10. Read both the Michael Pollan books — they were great, and also made me never want to eat fast food again. After reading the newest one I wanted to buy only organic. See you soon!

  11. I really likes The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society also. (just love knowing I have things in common with you, cause your really cool 🙂 )

Enjoy Will in pajamas. It will be far too soon that he is leaving early every morning. Besides what a way to get that laundry thing to slow down. I think he is just doing you a service.

Your door stop issue makes me think of my cabinet door knob mystery ……Why are they extremely loose? Are they feeling like I’m wound to tight and are trying to make a statement hmmmmm?

  12. I have loved Paul Cardall for years but never knew of his personal life. Thanks for letting me know.

And your door stops…..hahahaha! They were forever doing that in my old house….but not so much in this one!
