Lifestyle Photography: The art, practice, or occupation of taking and printing photographs of the way a person/people live
This is what drew me to become a photographer. I wanted to capture life. The way my family lives. The moments that make up life. I didn’t become a photographer so I could capture what my family looks like. I have plenty of those pictures. I wanted to capture and freeze and document life, the good, the bad, the mundane, the extraordinary, the messy, the clean, the highs and the lows to create a complete and honest picture of life. I wished that fly on the wall had a camera and could document our early morning blurry-eyed breakfast rush and our bantering and bickering and debating at the dinner table. Unfortunately that fly on the wall has no photography skills so the task falls on me. Of course I tend to pick up my camera when something “good” happens and am reluctant to snap away during the challenging times. But this year I resolve to document more honestly and consistently. And somehow incorporate a little videography at the same time.
That’s why I’m thrilled to continue this lifestyle project from last year because some months it’s the one motivation I have to pick up my camera and document my own family, especially during the holiday rush when the last thing I want is to edit more pictures. I am beyond honored to continue this project with many of the crazy talented photographers from last year as well as some equally talented new friends. I hope you pop in every month for a little glimpse into our lives. There are bound to be smiles and tears as our oldest prepares to head off to college later in the year.
To start off 2013, I’ve documented some of the moments that made up our December. When you’ve reached the end of this post, I hope you will continue through our circle by following the links. You’re sure to be inspired by the talent in our beautiful group.
Please head on over for a beautiful peek into the life of Shalonda Chaddock of chubby cheek photography l tomball tx child & family photographer.
wendy, you truly have a talent for painting a picture of the life all around you. your family is beautiful is so many ways, the places you go, the light you find, the pictures of who you all are are so relaxed, telling, and must be really treasured. as i look through these, a voice in the back of my mind says, ‘this is what big kids look like’ 🙂 i love that glimpse into the future. these are all so lovely, sweet, interesting and tell the story of your family. i feel so lucky to take it all in and be a part of this wonderful project xo
Oh Wendy. What an amazing month! The images on the beach speak to my heart. I love how you capture your kids, but especially your boys. Makes me hopeful of what I can expect in a few years myself. So good to see you on the other side of the lens too. xo
I love these images…the ones of your kids on the beach with the dog…love. My oldest (who is 10) will hardly let me take any pictures of him EVER so I am very inspired by how you capture the older children particularly…so honest and not intrusive to them. <3
Such a fun-filled December! I LOVE all your beach pictures. Makes me miss living in Carlsbad, Ca. And seeing your family interact and have fun during the holidays… that’s what it’s all about! I’m looking forward to getting to know you more through this fun project!
So I’m going to be the first to say that I think you need to have a house on the beach. You all spend so much time there and have so much fun, for this girl that has only been to a beach 2 times her whole life, I love seeing your beach photos…in fact I wish for them. You all are such an all-American family and I adore how your photos such just how close you all are.
lovely way to say it… i am so inspired by you all- so happy to be a part. looooove the peak into your month 🙂

Oh how fun! So inspiring for lifestyle work, now I have to get myself to a beach! ha
oh wendy you always make me want to live with y’all…the beach, the constant “doing” the fun of simply living! gah…i adore the way you give us a beautiful peek into your blessed and full life xoxo sweet friend
Wendy, I always love seeing your family..they are all so beautiful. The beach images….wow! I just love the tones!!! So gorgeous. Thank you for this glimpse into your world.
wendy…these are so sweet. I am so wrapped up in babies and babylife that its hard to imagine teenagers but I love them. The energy the life and the togetherness you all have. Love it!
I just love this glimpse into your world Wendy! So real. So beautiful. You make the most gorgeous children. I also have to say I’m always so amazed at how easy you make lifestyle photography look especially having older children. You are so gifted! It really gives me hope because my littles are getting bigger every day and I always stress that when they are older they may not be so receptive to their mom wielding the camera all the time and this shows that it can happen. So blessed to have you as a friend!!
oh wendy! what a beautiful set of images and such a lovely month. like sarah, it is inspiring how you capture your older children…i struggle with that as mine grow. it was so easy when they were little–and you make it look easy now too. gorgeous post. xo
I’m always so envious of all your beach photos, they are so gorgeous. Looks like you had another wonderful month with that beautiful family of yours!
so so much goodness! I love them all, but the one in the middle of someone out in the middle of the most gorgeous country … it breathes goodness and love and hope. stunning. love seeing your niece growing up … I just want to scoop her up and give her a great big squeeze. she’s adorable! xoox
Wendy…I happened upon your site on accident/coincidence!! It’s been a LONG time! What a beautiful family! You and Rolf look fantastic, as well as your extended family. My family (EVERYBODY!) went on a Disney Cruise in ’09 to complete part of my mom’s bucket list. It was a blast. I would love to catch up! Glad to see you are doing so well with such an amazing talent! xo
